Hello everybody, thank you for joining us today for our application workshop web and are we will get started in the next few minutes just wanting to wait for a few more folks to join maybe for some technical glitches that they may be experiencing just want to share also that if you have questions at any point throughout this webinar, please. Feel free to type your message within the chat feature and we will get to it as appropriate and then we also are going to accommodate the questions.
That you submitted ahead of time, so thanks for your patience while we wait a couple more minutes.
OK, we will go ahead and get started here, so the purpose of this webinar is to really just talk about the nuts and bolts of the specifics with the application. But before I start. I will introduce myself and then I'm joined by one of our students. So I am Rachel Riley, the assistant director of admissions for them words Office of admissions and I'm joined by.
I am back in the Lions unit fastener for the office of admissions. I'm also a second year in the counseling psychology program.
So, just to give a quick overview and then I'll dive into each of these bullet points in a little bit more detail moving forward in the next few minutes, so all of the things list on the screen are things that we require for a completed application, meaning that we will not be able to review your application until all items as required by your specific program of interests are received so again. I'll go through each of these in more detail but that.
Is comprising other online application transcripts from each college or University attended possibly jirari scores letters of recommendation a statement of professional goals. A statement of equity diversity and social justice, possibly a resume or CV and then a $65 application fee by attending today's webinar at your application fee will be waived following this summer. We will follow up with information about how to get, how to process that application fee waiver so.
Keep a lookout for that email that will come in a few hours.
So talking more specifically about the online application. It will require you to provide information about yourself your residency your address afternoon cracker. Contact information for references, etc and something that is slightly confusing for folks is that you were able to upload or submit the online application without uploading any document and so you can upload your resume transcripts written statements etc.
Within the application if you have them ready. But if you don't have them ready at the time of completing the application. You can submit it without it and then so like I said on the screen. You would be able to review your application electronically. Sign it, and then submit it and then within your application status page. Upload those other documents.
So it can be a way to expedite the process moves through one of the items on the checklist etc.
With transcripts this can be a little tricky for some folks. We are required to ask for every single transcript. For every single institution that you have you have attended where at least 1 academic credit was earned so this may include Community College study abroad. Non degree sequence of courses transfer credit. But it will not include anything that you've done for professional development or continuing education units.
Because if you have received a certificate of completion, but no academic credit will not need proof of that.
During the application process we are more than happy to accept unofficial document, but all transcripts guard list of whether they're unofficial or official they must include your name. The institution name. All classes taken grades and cut its earned for each of those classes and then if applicable, the degree conferral date.
I'm usually transcripts are quickest if they are sent electronically to the email on the screen or other institutions only some things via Mail and the address is also there on the screen, and then somebody did ask it in advance of the question. What is our minimum GPA requirement and for the University of Denver that is a 2.5 cumulative GPA?
Foluso Emmanuel
11:07:40 AM
If your GPA is close to 2.5 or even below 2.5 on the secret professional goals will talk a little bit more about would be a good place to talk about why and your GPA is a little bit lower. Maybe there were some extenuating circumstances within your undergraduate career that led to that. Feel free to talk about that as that is important for this faculty when making a decision.
Many of our programs, especially our PhD programs return of our masters and eds programs. Do require HERE and for this we only ask for the general test subject tests will not be considered.

What is a competitive GRE score for applications?
There's no minimum score requirement. We do ask that you just take it and then the score that you wrote that you receive will be considered in a holistic manner, meaning it will be one piece of your entire application process and then just be mindful that it does take about 2 to 380 more weeks for your scores to be received by the institution so take that into consideration with the upcoming deadlines and the code for the University of Denver is on the screen there for 8.

Moving down the list would be letters of recommendation some programs require one letter of recommendation. Others recommend 3. Most of our programs will require 2 letters of recommendation and the way this process works is you will provide the name and contact information for references within the online application and then they will be contacted directly to complete the letter of recommendation process if the program that you are applying to asks for 2 recommendations.
We do prefer that one is academic and one is professional, however, it is really important that.
Is this is not the case? Maybe you ask for 2 recommended to academic or 2 professional letters really that those individuals can completely speak to your aptitude for graduate education related skills in the field and also something like recency and Relevancy is important. So it in my opinion, you know just for clarity purposes. It might be more beneficial to have 2 professional recommendations from within the last 5 years.
As opposed to an academic reference from 10 years ago, as an example. But really we are interested in. Watt folks have to say about you as well as your professional judgment asks for picking those 2 or those individuals.
With the written statements all of our programs will require what we call a statement professional goals or personal statement. And many will also require a statement of equity diversity in social justice for the statement of professional goals were looking for authenticity. We want to know about you and your previous experiences and really what your goals are for pursuing this graduate degree in this particular field and so I like to explain it as.
A3 part explaining your why so why this program why this field, and why now because those can really.
Offer a greater specificity as to why you're pursuing graduate education and so really we want to know more about you, it does not have to be academic in.
Nature you know you don't feel like you have to cite theory or anything of that nature, but really we want to get to know more about you.
And we do recommend even encouraged following the people. It's listed in the prompt usually they range between one and 2 pages or 2 to 3 pages.
And as humans are reading this we do prefer on typed double spaced 12 point font. One inch margins just to be mindful of folks reading multiple written statements everyday I strain is a real thing, so being mindful of those considerations would be lovely and then with this statement of professional or the statement of equity diversity in social justice really following the prompt within the application checklist to discuss.

Hello from Oakland, California!
The importance of equity diversity and social justice within your particular field really those are important things within the College of education as well as the University of Denver and we want to know what you can offer in that regard.
Last but not least is the resume or CV, either is acceptable really just thinking about What is more perfect for you and your experiences is fine and then we do you know just include all relevant experiences so that could be education volunteer professional experience of course?
And that way you can tie to some other things that you talk about in either of your statements so pretty straightforward there.
And then from there very I'm sure a lot of you are eager to know what is next so the application all of your application your materials will be reviewed by our central office with graduated machine for compliance purposes and then it will be sent.
So within that compliance review you may receive emails from the office of graduated machine, saying that we need a different transcript. Because maybe one of the documents. You provided wasn't fully comprehensive so just again. Be aware of those emails coming to you and then from there. The mortgage office of admission, so including myself and my colleagues will review applications along with program faculty.
I'm in a holistic manner and I know I've mentioned this before, but that is really important is really critical within our application review process so we do look at all aspects of your application to make a decision.
Is I know some people have? Asked what is the most important part of the application really being able to tell the full story about yourself. We really do value authenticity and getting to know you so I think that's really important. So definitely within your statement of professional goals. Those carry a lot of weight, but beyond that. Everything is pretty much we did very equally and we take everything into consideration some programs do require an academic interview before we can make an admission decision.
I'm in others do not so, based upon that the next steps within the program. You may receive an invitation to interview or you may receive an email.
That is inviting you to admitted student day and telling you that you have been recommended for admission and then just please be mindful that the email that you use within your application isn't email that you are able to utilize throughout this entire process so for instance, if you are graduating this month, congratulations, but please make sure that if you are using your institution email.
That you will be able to keep accessing that account throughout this whole process for instance.
And so again I'll reiterate this as well all items listed on that first screen of content will be required in order to have your application reviewed we and if there's a deadline consideration. If you do not have an item in byassee deadline. We will not review your application until that item is name. And so, if we are no longer accepting applications. After that deadline. We may not be able to accept your application if it's late.
I'm so definitely feel free to reach out to us if you have any specific questions about that, like maybe a letter of recommendation is late or GRE score things like that definitely important to be mindful of deadlines.
So moving forward, I'm I know we have some questions that have come in throughout this presentation. But if you have any additional ones. Please feel free to utilize the chat feature to ask any additional questions.

Ed policy and leadership
The educational leadership in Policy Studies, Ed program usually has about 10 to 15 students.
Maria Sujo
11:17:22 AM
Thank you.
Add incoming students every summer and that is the preferred start term for that program usually more students will be admitted than those that start the program. But if you meet application deadlines and fulfill your eligible for the program. I would see no problem for you, receiving admission.

Do we need to know our focus before starting a program
Program will receive a scholarship appan admission and that's parsable very respond strength of your application an interview. For that program specifically that those requiring interview and so it is not fully funded just to be completely transparent, but maybe is a considerable chunk off of the total tuition amount.
The question regarding knowing your focus. I think it would be helpful to know which program you're interested in but usually most programs. You have flexibility in determining your specific focus concentration specialization?
After you get into the program.
But some programs do require you to know at the time of application so again. It would be helpful to know what program you're specifically interested in.

Sorry, *for the Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology program, how many students are accepted?
I'm Cynthia great question about faculty alignment for doctoral program specifically PhD programs. Definitely faculty alignment is important, and I think about this from the students perspective. If you are doing a PhD program and writing a dissertation. You should want to have faculty who are experts in.
Cindy Cragg
11:21:23 AM
How about for the EdD program?
An areas that align with your research interests. And so I think I'm really looking at our faculty BIOS to make sure that they would be able to support you to the fullest extent during your doctoral. Endeavour would be really important for Masters programs, not as important and you just mentioned for the Ed Program, not as important because the dissertation is not required is not a part of the program. There is a doctoral research project project.
As part of any D program and so you know still having faculty that can support you in related fields is important, but not as critical for the PLP to program.
Cindy Cragg

How likely is someone to be accepted into the Library and information science program without prior experience? Or any program in general?
Are in the Master of Arts and counting psychology program usually this incoming class varies between 50 and 60 students in similar to what I said, for the educational leadership program more students will be accepted to that. But if you are able to meet application deadline, doctors requirements.
And you meet eligibility requirements, we would be happy to accept you.
Katie Schofield
11:22:41 AM
Thank you!
Ashley great question about meeting prior experience for the library information science program.
Lily Ruiz
11:22:46 AM
Sorry that last message was a mistake
At the Masters level, having experience is not.
Always required for the library information science program. It is not required to have experience. It is encouraged. Maybe volunteering in a library is acceptable but it is not a hard and fast requirements for the Master of library and information science program.
